The worldwide problem of the aging cable infrastructure brings about a greater than ever need for power cable maintenance testing and fault locating. Despite the common guidelines for cable fault location to be done by experienced professionals only, the circumstances frequently demand staff with insufficient fault locating skills to perform cable testing.

For this reason the industry has seen an increase in the demand for fault locating equipment flexibility, enabling both expert technicians and newbies to cable testing to efficiently diagnose cables and locate cable faults.

As the tester features both a surge wave generator and a time domain reflectometer (TDR), it helps to solve a range of objectives related to the cable testing process, including cable diagnostics, fault pre-location and pinpointing.

To make the process of cable fault location more straightforward for users with a lack of relevant skills, the cable test system features testing in the automatic mode. The intuitive control panel and user-friendly software further facilitate error-free testing. Also, the more experienced users can benefit from the manual mode, allowing to specify the test parameters and sequence.

The high levels of cable testing efficiency are achieved due to the powerful surge wave generator, which significantly speeds up testing of power cables, known for their high capacitance.

On account of the high voltage nature of power cable testing, a critical requirement to cable fault locating equipment is safety, both to the user and the equipment being tested. In the SWG-12/1100R the combination of a thumper and a TDR tester allows to bring down the cable load to the minimum, while safety checks prior to the beginning of testing prevent high voltage hazards caused by improper earth connections.

Testhead
