Integral Cable Test & Fault Locating Systems: Convenient Solution for Cable Commissioning and Maintenance
Cable fault location presents a number of challenges, and how successful it is greatly depends on the nature of the fault, how remote the site is, and how skillful the repair crew are. Combined together, when the type of cable defect is unknown, testing needs to be done at a remote location, and the testing personnel have little experience in fault finding, these challenges might be difficult to tackle.
For this reason, KEP offers a series of cable test vans ETL, which provide the flexibility required for efficient fault finding.
A strong advantage of KEP’s cable test vans is that they comprise the most advanced fault locating equipment, offering DC hipot testing from 4 to 80 kV, with surge energy from 1000 to 2560 J.
The integrated hipot test set allows to run cable proof testing, while the time domain reflectometer ensures accurate fault pre-locating in the pulse echo (TDR), arc reflection (ARC), impulse current (ICE) and voltage decay (DECAY) modes.
The incorporated surge wave generator, used in conjunction with a surge wave locator, is responsible for acoustic fault pinpointing. Also, in the burn mode the surge generator is used for cable fault conditioning, which allows to pinpoint intermittent cable faults.
On the customer’s request, KEP delivers a test van supplied with all the required testing equipment. Alternatively, KEP can deliver the selected cable fault location system ETL for the customer to install themselves into a vehicle of their choice.
